If the first 7 days of the decade are any indication of how it's going to go, I think I'm going to need a better seat belt - possibly shoulder restraints.
Let's recap:
Jan. 1 - Awesome day with the Bigs in Indio. I drove down on NYE to ring in the new year with them, my brother, his girlfriend and my parents. Great time complete with football, Scrabble, cookie making, a trip to Target and s'mores at the end of the night. Does it get better than that? Nope. Here are some pictures.
Jan. 2 - I almost got hit by an airplane. Have you ever had the opportunity to look the pilot of a private jet in the eye from the driver seat of your car? It's great fun. AND - if you're a person with a huge fear of low-flying planes coupled with frequent nightmares about plane crashes (as I'd had the night before) you get the added bonus of instant hyperventilating and panicky tears. Good times. Fortunately I had that 8-hour drive back home to calm me back down.
Jan. 3 - Back to work! It's a Sunday, which means I'm dry and on the deck, right? Wrong. But no big woo. That's the fun of the job.
Jan. 4 - Things are looking up. I visit my new studio in the Presidio for the pre-move inspection. Everything looks great and all systems are go.
Jan. 5 - Presidio calls me at work (UCSF version) to say that they can't get a hold of the payroll dept. to verify my employment. If no one signs off on me by 5, I lose the studio. Scramble, scramble, scramble.... corners cut, papers signed, delivered to the leasing office at 4:30. Rent is recalculated (it's income based) and it drops about $100/month from what they initially quoted me. All systems go, "just get your roommate to sign this release form." Studio saved.
Jan. 6 - "The long and short of it is, I can't sign this form. When you moved in, you said you'd be here for a year." Studio lost.
Jan. 7 - Today. Hoping for compromise from the roommate by offering to pay rent for February as well if that will make her feel more comfortable about our chances of finding someone to take over my place on the lease. Still waiting for her to sign off on it so I can move. Studio in limbo.
Jan. 8 - Tomorrow. What will be in store?
