Hanging Around

I finally got around to hanging up some of my framed pictures today. I guess that means I'm planning on staying put for a while. (Incidentally, there's quite a difference in results when Googling images for "picture hangers" vs. "hanging pictures." Consider yourself warned.)

Anyway, as my mom and my good friend Steve like to remind me, I don't post enough "musings" on this blog o' mine. Honestly, I can't keep up with myself. Things happen and I want to share, but then... something else happens and another thing after that.

So what's been happening?
  • Since the last post, I've settled into my decision to stay at the swim school. I'm finally feeling comfortable in my own soggy skin there and trying to balance steady growth as a teacher and the constant need for something "new" to keep me from getting bored. Fortunately, it's hard to be bored as a swim teacher.... at least, not with some of the monkeys I teach. Still...
  • I've also decided to continue my employment with UCSF. For a while, the idea of one, 5-day a week job was totally appealing. But then, so was the idea of being able to pay rent and bills, eat and still have some money left over to live on. Ergo, an extension of the UCSF contract through December under terms the Director of Student Life asked me to submit. I came up with: fewer hours, less responsibility and more pay. They went for all of it. I hope my negotiating dad is proud of this fruit that clearly fell very close to the tree.
  • I moved. That happened in June, and it's going as well as can be expected considering that I went from living with people who didn't like to socialize at all to living with people who were replacing their roommate of 6 years. It's taking a little longer to feel comfortable here than I had expected, but not because of anything anyone else has said or done. I just enjoy my me-time more than most people (which I'm pretty sure has everything to do with having to be "ON" 35ish hours a week).
  • A good friend lost her battle with ovarian cancer. Don't ever hesitate to visit someone who's ill. I wish I hadn't.
  • A Big graduated from junior high and a Little graduated from Pre-K. A new Little is on the way, and I think the consensus among the family is: WE WANT A GIRL! (I know the matter has already been settled, but we still have some time before we find out for sure.)
  • I decided to take a big step back from my work with the SF LGBT Center. I'm excited to see what some of the other leaders can do for the SF queer women's community. I kid myself into thinking that this will free up some time for unstructured personal growth, but I know myself better than that!
  • I had a few back-to-back-to-back trips to spend time with the family in SoCal and Monterey. It was great to have some bonus time with them, and to be reminded that the sun DOES shine in the summer. Links to photo albums are on the right (if you're reading this on Blogger, that is).
That's all I've got for now. Consider yourselves uh-mused.
