Colder than a ...

... several endings to this cliche come to mind having to do with various body parts and metals. Suffice it to say, the overall theme of my weekend jaunt to New York was: BRRRR!

Coming in a very close second, though outweighing the first for sheer sentimental value, was having the opportunity to see so many family members and friends. The last time I was in NY was Jan/Feb 2006 for my internship at the Women's Sports Foundation (during which time we endured a 21" snowfall - overnight). Before that, the last time I saw any of my extended family was November 2005 when I was in that, "I need an editing job and, dammit, I'm going to find it in New York City" phase. Well, we all know what came of that (and I'm in no way, shape or form complaining about the path on which I'm traveling).

I digress.

I had a blast catching up with everyone. I got to meet a new cousin, Bella, the only girl our family has seen since my cousin Laurie was born in the late 1970s. I saw some of my great aunts and long-time family friends. I even hung out with my grandparents for a bit (at the cemetery) which is something I'd never done before. I've enjoyed some "dream" vacations in the last year between Rio, Mexico and Cape Cod, but having the opportunity to spend some time with family and friends really topped them all. Maybe absence does makes the heart grow fonder? It had been three years! :-) (Also, and maybe somewhat narcissistically, I have to say that it was freaking AWESOME to see people's reactions to my weight loss. I figured I'm about 40 pounds lighter than I was the last time I was there... although, some of those pounds might have come in handy in the 25-degree weather!!)

Anyway... follow this link to check out some photo highlights of the adventure.
