Zoom zoom!

So after years and years of being a licesnsed motorcyclist (9 this month to be exact), I finally decided it was time to learn how the damn things work.

The best thing to come out of my most recent dating disaster was getting information about a basic motorcycle maintenance course held at one of the local shops. I looked into it a month or so ago, but the schedule for that round of classes didn't really jibe with mine. (Because, face it, I have to plan stuff months in advance or I miss out.)

Anyway, tonight was the first night of the class. Not surprisingly, I was the only woman there, but I was more than okay with that. As I said when I introduced myself, I have two brothers, five nephews and one of my two best friends is a guy. I can deal.

The class is really interesting. Our fees got us a pretty thick, hard cover "Motorcycle Basics" manual and the opportunity to listen to the shop owner talk about the engine, crank shaft, transmission, spark plugs, clutch, etc. etc. ... all of these things that I kinda knew about, but really had no working knowledge of how THEY worked together.

Next week we'll actually learn some basic maintenance skills: oil changes, chain checks, tire pressure (which I DO know how to do, thanks) and more.

The highlight of the night was flipping open the manual and looking at the inside cover, which listed some of the other published titles. They print manuals for Vespas, tractors, bicycles, and - my personal favorite... (click here).
